Chain Store Sales Up Last Week
New York, NY, June 12, 2007--Chain store sales rose 1 percent for the week ended June 9 from the prior week, according to the ICSC-UBS Weekly U.S. Retail Chain Store Sales Index jointly published by the International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities. On a year-over-year basis, sales rose 2.1 percent for the period.
It was the strongest week-over-week showing since the week ending February 3, 2007.
"Sales were mixed for the first week of June with the healthiest week-over-week gain in four months, but the year-over-year pace was a tad softer," said Michael Niemira, chief economist with the ICSC. He said, “So far in June, sales are tracking about a 2 percent year-over-year increase.
