Chain Store Sales Up Last Week

New York, August 29, 2006--Chain store sales rose 3.6% for the week ended Aug. 26, according to a survey released Tuesday by International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities LLC. On a week-over-week basis, sales rose 0.6%. "With an easier end-of-month comparison, better seasonal weather, and lower gasoline prices, the forces were in place for a strong finish to the month's sales performance," said Michael Niemira, ICSC's chief economist and director of research. ICSC expects August retail chain store sales to rise by nearly 3%. Most retailers will report August sales at stores open at least one year on Aug. 31
