Chain Store Sales Up 2.8% from Year Ago

New York, NY, January 3, 2007--Chain store sales for the week ended December 30 rose 2.8% from the year-ago period, according to a survey released Wednesday by the International Council of Shopping Centers. and UBS Securities. On a week-over-week basis, sales rose 0.3%. "This past week, consumers provided retailers with some additional holiday cheer as they began to cash in their gift cards," said Michael Niemira, ICSC's chief economist. For December, ICSC expects sales to increase by about 2.5%.
