Chain Store Sales Off Last Week

New York, NY, October 3, 2006--Chain store sales for the week ended Sept. 30 rose 3.3% compared to the same period a year ago, according to a survey released Tuesday by the International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities. On a week-over-week basis, sales slipped 0.3%. "Despite the relatively good year-over-year momentum, the weekly pace of sales continued to struggle this past week," said Michael Niemira, ICSC's chief economist. "Given the weak finish to the month, ICSC now expects retail chain store sales to increase on the light side of 4% for September." Most retailers will report sales results for the month on Thursday.
