Chain Store Sales Higher Than Year Ago
New York, Ny, June 3, 2010--Chain-store sales for the week ended May 29 rose 2.5% from the year-earlier period, according to a survey released by the International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs.
"For the month as a whole, sales were affected negatively by cooler temperatures than in recent years and a calendar-shift that pushed Memorial Day sales into the June fiscal month this year versus in May last year," said Michael Niemira, ICSC's chief economist.
ICSC sees May sales rising 2% to 2.5%.
