Chain Store Sales Flat Last Week

New York, NY, June 20, 2006--Chain store sales were unchanged on the week but rose on a year-over-year basis, according to a report on Tuesday. Sales were unchanged in the week ended June 17 after rising 1.2 percent in the previous week, according to the report produced by the International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities LLC. The ICSC said sales rose 3.9 percent last week versus the same week in 2005. In the previous week, sales rose 4.0 percent versus the same week a year earlier. "Overall, it was a mixed performance for sales--though there was a slight lift from increased discretionary purchasing power as energy prices moderated a tad," said Michael P. Niemira, ICSC's chief economist and director of research.
