Chain Sales Sales Up Last Week

New York, NY, October 10, 2006--Chain store sales for the week ended Oct. 7 rose 0.5% on a week-over-week basis, according to a survey released Tuesday by the International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities. Accoridng to the report, sales rose 3.7% compared with the year-ago period. "Geographically the sales performance was uneven with the Northeast weaker than the nation, while sales in the West were somewhat stronger than the nation as a whole," said Michael Niemira, ICSC's chief economist. For October, ICSC expects same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least one year, to rise 3%, a slightly slower pace than the previous three months.
