Carpetright Sees 2H Improvement

London, England, April 25, 2006--Carpet chain Carpetright has seen an upturn in both sales and margins in the second half of the year as the housing market revived in recent months, according to ShareCast. Sales in UK and Ireland sales rose 3.7% between November and 22 April, with a like-for-like increase of 1.9%. In the first 13 weeks underlying sales grew by just 0.2%. Gross margins are up by double expectations at 60 basis points. "We are pleased with our current performance and have finished the year with a period of more positive trading," said chairman and chief executive Philip Harris. The European business increased sales by 12.8% in the second half.
