Carpetland Founder Weisbacher Dies

Cincinnati, OH, July 29, 2009—Carpetland founder Kurt Weisbacher died July 23.

Weisbacher founded Carpetland in 1946 and grew the business steadily. It was number 38 on the Floor Focus list of top 100 retailers with annual sales of $50 million. It was originally a cleaning service business only, with Kroger as a major customer.

Weisbacher fled Nazi Germany as a teen, settling in Cincinnati. He served in the U.S. Army as an engineer during World War II.
