Carpet Retailer Hits The Roof Over Bank Loan

Fairfield, OH, Aug. 4, 2009--The owner of a carpet retailer in Ohio said he'll live on the roof of his store until a bank loan comes through to save his company, Cincinnati television WLWT reported.

Al Smith, who owns the Dalton Ga Carpet Outlets, said his business was approved in November for a loan from Fifth Third Bank, but he said the loan kept getting pushed back and he was recently told that he would not get the funds.

Smith has already closed four of his company's six stores and laid off about 30 employees, and he said the remaining two would shut down if he can't secure a loan.

Several other small-business owners have chipped in to help by donating money, food and a portable toilet.
