Carpet Recycling in UK Gets Push from Industry

London, England, May 30, 2008--Recyclers of carpets, retailers of carpets and makers of carpets from all over the United Kingdom have joined to raise the rates of recycling for carpets.

The players in the carpet industry have started an alliance known as Carpet Recycling UK. The alliance consists of fifteen founding members and this includes Greenback Recycling, the pioneer carpet recycler in the United Kingdom. Greenback Recycling has its headquarters in Swindon.

Kate Atkinson, who was one of the founders of the initiative together with carpet industry experts such as Bill Tippett and Laurance Bird, said that recycling of carpets was an important issue and the formation of the organization had demonstrated the fact that they had realised that action needed to be taken in the area of carpet recycling.

Carpet Recycling UK has said that there was huge demand for carpet recycling services even among the councils bearing in mind the landfill tax increase.

Among the priorities the alliance has singled out include raising government awareness of the sector so as to attract more support from agencies and regulators involved in recycling. The alliance also aims to make information concerning the recycling of carpets available to the citizenry and stakeholders.

In the first six months of its existence one of the objectives of the alliance will be to survey the market for under-developed fibres. The second objective will be to institute a feasibility study on reduction of size for certain types of carpets.

Carpet Recycling UK also intends to launch a certification system for recyclers of carpets with an aim of giving the stakeholders more credibility and also offering precise information for anyone intending to use their services.
