Carpet One Helps "After the Storm"
Manchester, NH April 28, 2006--Floor covering retailer Carpet One recently joined with ABC’s Emmy-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The company donated flooring for two “After the Storm” special episodes, which aired March 30th and April 6th, reaching over 11 million viewers each night. The Thursday night “After the Storm” episodes focused on areas of the country that were affected by last fall’s hurricanes. For the March 30th Florida episode, Carpet One provided 1,000 sq. ft. of Earthscapes, a resilient flooring that is scratch, wear and dent resistant, for a little league team’s concession stand. Before Hurricane Wilma destroyed the facility, it served more than 600 kids in the community and was the home of the 2003 Little League World Champions. Fundraising for uniforms and field repairs for the little league team came from selling snacks at the concession stand during games. Since the team’s facilities were damaged, they had no way of raising money to rebuild the baseball park. The team at Extreme Makeover: Home Edition not only provided the community with new facilities and equipment for the players, but also rebuilt their concession stand, giving the community a way to support the little league team in the future. Carpet One then donated a variety of flooring products, including another Earthscapes style, for the 118-year old First Emmanuel Church’s kitchen and pantry area in New Orleans for the April 6th episode. In addition, Carpet One provided area rugs for a children’s play area in the church. The First Emmanuel Church, which served a congregation of more than 1,000, held its first service since Hurricane Katrina during the show. Carpet One was credited for their donations with an on-air logo shot during the 1-hour episode. Viewers interested in products donated by Carpet One are directed to CarpetOne.com from the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition website. “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is a wonderful television show that truly changes the lives of some very deserving families and communities,” said Carpet One president, Evan Hackel. “We are really excited to be a part of these projects and I hope that we can continue to support the show in the future.” A video clip and additional photos of the Carpet One products used on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition are available by request.
