Lahore, Pakistan, December 27, 2006--The problems faced by the carpet industry will be solved on priority basis and the government will provide land for a “carpet city” within a year, said nazim Mian Amer Mehmood, according to a report in the Daily Times.
He was meeting the newly elected chairman of Carpet Manufacturers Association, Mian Javedur Rehman, and other office bearers on Friday.
He said the government would provide land and the facilities a “carpet city” needed and the association should provide the necessary documents and details of problems in this connection.
Mian Javedur Rehman said the notices issued by the district government to shift carpet-cleaning factories outside the city were unjustified. He said the shifting of these factories was not possible until a carpet city was setup. He asked the nazim to cancel the notices and issue directives for setting up the carpet city as soon as possible.
Mian Amer Mehmood said carpet-cleaning factories could work within the city for a year and promised that land would be provided for the carpet city within this period.
