CARE Has Diverted Two Billion Pounds
Dalton, Georgia, May 4, 2011--Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) announced that it has diverted two billion pounds of carpet from its inception in 2002 through 2010.
It took six years to divert the first billion pounds and three years to divert the second billion pounds.
In 2010, CARE diverted 338 million pounds of carpet, a diversion rate of 5.6%, which represents a 9% increase from 2009 rates. Of that, 271 million pounds was recycled, an increase of 10% over 2009.
CARE currently has 98 collectors and processors across the U.S. and expects to break the 100 mark in the next 30 days.
The organization had 150 attendees, 25% to 30% of whom were new, at its annual convention at Amelia Island, Florida last week. In addition, it had a record 15 exhibitors and 12 sponsors.
