Ottawa, Ontario, June 8, 2006--Canadian housing starts dipped 0.5 percent in May to a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 216,800 units from a revised 217,900 units in April, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. said on Thursday.
The number of starts in May missed consensus expectations of analysts who had called for 220,000 starts.
Urban singles declined 1.3 percent to 89,200 units in May from 90,400 in April, while urban multiples rose 0.1 percent to an annual rate of 96,500 units from 96,400 in April.
