Temecula, CA, October 25--Mohammad Rustamzada’s interest in rugs goes back a long way. "I remember going into my father’s rug store in Afghanistan when I was a little boy," said Mohammad Rustamzada, owner of Rustam Rug Gallery.
The Valley News reported that when he was younger, he worked in his father’s store and enjoyed his experiences. It was from his father that he learned about the business of buying and selling rugs and came to own a store of his own. Stacked on the ground, rolled against the wall, and hung in racks, Rustam Rug Gallery carries rugs of all shapes and sizes.
Tucked off of Jefferson Ave., at 27355 Suite A, the store is small, dim and cozy. There are only two chairs standing in the room; everywhere else there are only rugs. Despite the appearance of a small space, Rustam Rug Gallery carries about 5,000 rugs, all available in the store. Ranging anywhere in price to meet all budgets, the rugs fall into any category a customer could desire. If, by some chance, the rug a customer is looking for is not in stock, Rustam Rug Gallery can special order it.
Rustamzada lives in Temecula and is married with three children. He used to work in wholesale with rugs, but he grew tired of traveling and wished instead to spend time with his family. Four years ago he opened Rustam Rug Gallery.
As he explains, his current career is not a simple one. "It is not an easy business. It takes a lot of patience and knowledge." Luckily, both are qualities which Rustamzada possesses, having grown up in the rug business. His father inspired him. He learned from his father how to care for and trade rugs.
Besides selling rugs, Rustam Rug Gallery also repairs and cleans rugs. As a family business, one of the other two employees includes Rustamzada’s brother, Osman.
Together they travel all over the world and personally choose the rugs to be sold in the store. They specialize in high-end quality products, both old and new. When asked which type of rug sells most successfully, Rustamzada explained that no one style sells better, since all of the rugs in his store are handmade and of the finest quality.
"Rugs you purchase from us are an investment. They add beauty to your home and are pieces of art," said Rustamzada. "It is not the size that determines the price of a rug, but the quality."
