Britain's United Carpets Sees Slower Sales

London, England, Aug. 9, 2010--United Carpets, Britain's second largest carpet and flooring retailer, improved profits during the year to March, but said that sales have been slow since the start of the year.

Profit before tax and exceptional items grew 7.3% on a 2.5% increase in revenue.

"Sales of flooring and beds remained stable during the period under review, which resulted in a good performance for the year," chief executive Paul Eyre said.

"The market environment remains challenging, with little improvement in volume across the housing market and an understandable sense of caution amongst consumers given the continuing economic uncertainty in the UK."
