Brazil's Ceramics Industry Supplies Mosaics to

São Paulo, Brazil, April 24, 2006--The Brazilian ceramics industry has entered a sector that is already well established in Arab architecture: mosaics, according to the Brazil-Arab News Agency. Mosarte, a factory from the city of Tijucas, in the interior of the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, is supplying mosaics for use in walls and floors to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Mosarte produces mosaics in ceramics, marble and granite and is a leader in its sector in Brazil, with a marketshare of approximately 70%. The Arabs entered the list of importers of company products around two years ago, through contacts made at a fair in Brazil, and from then on they have become constant customers. The first order, by the Saudis, was for an item with a floral design, in brown, for flooring. The number of items ordered, however, grew and the number of buyers in the region did too. "They buy every three months," stated the company designer, Thaisa Sedrez. Although Mosarte only started exporting in 2004, the company already sells its products to various regions of the world, like the United States, countries in South America, Mexico and Jamaica, as well as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The channel to place the products on the foreign market, according to Thaisa, who also answers to company exports, is usually participation in fairs. Mosarte is well known for the creativity of its products. Apart from supplying orders under the customer's specifications, the company creates the designs of the mosaics it offers the market. According to Thaisa, at Mosarte there is a department turned to design. "We have an internal development team that creates all the products in our line, always creating market concepts," stated the designer. The company, which has only one industrial unit, in the city of Tijucas, produces 500,000 items a month and employs 200 people. It was the pioneer in the use of water jets to cut the mosaics, permitting greater precision in the cuts, including in curves. In Brazil, around 250 points of sale offer the products made by Mosarte.
