BPS Introduces New Glueless Backing System
City of Industry, CA, May 28, 2008-–Bentley Prince Street has launched a unique new backing system that uses Free Lay technology to install carpet without adhesives or tackstrip.
The Contact Release system is now available on all Bentley Prince Street broadloom products. The technology was developed by Raiford McDonald of Textile Rubber and Chemical Co. and he holds the patent.
The system entails a thin acrylic polymer that is applied to the attached polyurethane carpet backing, which bonds the carpet to virtually any clean, smooth and dry surface without using special installation or removal equipment. The longer the carpet stays in place, the stronger the bond becomes.
While the carpet will not move laterally, it can easily be lifted off the floor.
The company said the new technology makes installation quick and simple, saving time and resources as well as eliminating typical installation problems. It also allows the installer to precisely precut the carpeting to fit the covered area.
On certain surfaces such as unsealed concrete, plywood, particle board, damaged smooth surfaces, and metal, a one-time application of an acrylic floor polymer is required.
Because the bond never becomes permanent, carpet can easily be removed at the end of its life cycle and replaced with new carpet having the Contact Release system. Also, worn or soiled sections can be cut out of the carpet and replaced.
The company said that Contact Release also means much greater design creativity, making it easier to install visual elements such as free-form designs, borders, insets and outfills. Because the entire backing surface adheres to the substrate, it also improves carpet performance and appearance, with greater resistance to buckling and wrinkling as well as seam shrinkage and visibility.
