Bonar Floors To Intro New Airliner Flooring

Derbyshire, U.K., Feb. 24--A new lightweight aircraft floorcovering, which could help airlines save millions of dollars and replace conventional carpeting in aircraft, will be introduced this week at the Aircraft Interiors Expo show in Hamburg. The new product will also be shown at both the Ft. Lauderdale Aircraft Interiors Conference and Exhibition in April and at the Paris Airshow in June. Flytex, manufactured by UK based company Bonar Floors Ltd, weighs less than 1000g per square meter, compared to conventional aircraft carpet, which weighs an average of 1,720g per square meter. With every kilogram equivalent to a saving on running costs of $150 per year, installing Flytex in an Airbus 340-500 would reduce fuel costs by $32,000 a year. A Boeing 747-400 with Flytex would cost $48,000 less to operate annually. Specifically designed for the aircraft industry using flocking technology and expertise gained over 40 years, Flytex is durable, simple to clean, comfortable underfoot and water proof. Fully compliant with all requisite regulations, it can be installed easily in less time than conventional carpet, because no edge binding is required before installation. It will not fray when cut and also includes a layer of the fire retardant Nomex, the same material used in driver and pit crew clothing in Formula 1. From a commercial perspective, Flytex offers the aircraft industry new opportunities for branding. Because patterns can be printed onto Flytex, it will also allow operators to incorporate logos and other graphics into their floor designs. These printed designs can be coordinated with other interior furnishings.
