Bomb Scare Evacuates Dal-Tile Facility

Sunnyvale, TX, April 13, 2007--A mid-morning bomb threat closed Dal-Tile's Sunnyvale business for almost three hours Wednesday, according to the McKinney Courier Gazette.

The newspaper reported that at about 9:13 a.m. the manager of Dal-Tile, 199 North Planters Road, received a phone call from an unidentified male stating in 15 minutes he would ignite a bomb. The manager called 911 and two law enforcement organizations, along with the Sunnyvale Fire Department responded.

Upon the arrival of the Sunnyvale Fire Department and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, the newspaper said the building was evacuated. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and the fire department worked with Dal-Tile employees to conduct an initial sweep of the building.

A total of five suspicious boxes were found, according to the report. There was reason for concern, given that about 15 to 20 employees had been released by the business in the past two weeks. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department indicated it could be the work of a disgruntled employee and will be conducting an investigation, which will include in its focus the investigation of former employees.

Once the packages were discovered, the Mesquite Bomb Squad was called in to assist in the gathering of the suspicious packages. The unit took X-Rays of the packages and determined all five to be non-explosive. The building was again swept by the Mesquite Bomb Squad and no other suspicious items were found. The building was cleared by the Sunnyvale Fire Department at noon and employees went back to work with no further incidents.
