Billings Hospital To Recycle 90k Pounds of Carpet
Billings, MT, February 28, 2008--A Billings, Montana clinic plans to recycle 90,000 pounds of carpet.
The hospital will replace 180,000 square feet of floor covering on its downtown campus, and will ship old carpet to a recycling plant in Georgia instead of to a landfill.
Billings Clinic routinely replaces its 600,000 square feet of carpet, which covers about half its downtown floor space, every 10 years.
As many as 5 billion pounds of carpet end up in landfills every year, according to the Carpet America Recovery Project.
Since 2002, recycling efforts have diverted about 745 million pounds of used carpet from landfills, according to CARE.
