Berkshire Hathaway Reports ServiceMaster Holdings

Omaha, NE, August 26--Berkshire Hathaway Inc. reported holding a stake in ServiceMaster Co. as of June 30. Berkshire Hathaway held 3.7 million ServiceMaster shares according to a filing made with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Although Berkshire Hathaway, along with many other investment companies, reports its investments each quarter to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company typically requests confidential treatment for some of its holdings. The ServiceMaster holdings had been reported confidentially to the SEC and weren't part of the quarterly public disclosure. On Wednesday, Berkshire Hathaway reported the holdings, saying confidential treatment "is no longer warranted." Investment firms can request confidential filing status, under which holdings can be kept secret for up to a year, to limit market reactions and to protect investment strategies. Berkshire Hathaway on Wednesday revealed previously confidential holdings for the quarters ended Dec. 31, 2003, March 31 and June 30. The company reported holding 3,050,700 ServiceMaster shares on Dec. 31 last year and 3,432,000 ServiceMaster shares as of March 31.
