Bentley Prince Street Receives Governor’s Environm

City of Industry, CA, December 15-- Bentley Prince Street is the recipient of the 2004 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award for the State of California, the state’s highest and most prestigious environmental honor. A.G. Kawamura, Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, presented the award to Bentley Prince Street in a ceremony at the California Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters last week in Sacramento. Bentley Prince Street representatives Catherine Minervini, director of marketing and Judy Pike, director of sustainability and materials management, were on hand to receive the award. Established in 1993, the annual Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) Program is administered by the California Environmental Protection and Resources Agency in partnership with the State and Consumer Services Agency. The program recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made notable contributions in conserving California’s precious resources, protecting and enhancing our environment, and building public-private partnerships. Recipients are chosen from throughout California for promoting excellence in compatible, sustainable economic development while protecting the environment and conserving natural resources. This year's awards recognize outstanding contributions by 20 businesses, organizations and government offices in seven award categories. Bentley Prince Street received the Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award in the category of Sustainable Practices. This category includes companies that pioneer efforts to integrate sound environmental values into long-term management decisions and practices. "Bentley Prince Street has consistently been recognized as a leader in style, design, quality and sustainability in the commercial carpet industry," explained Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. "Our product lines include styles made in part from post industrial recycled content, and all Bentley Prince Street products made with either High Performance backing or LIFESPAN backing are included in the EPP certification by Scientific Certification Systems, an independent, third-party certifier.' Minite also described the how company’s Cool Carpet and ReEntry programs are designed to effectively balance the environmental impact that a product's lifecycle has on the environment.
