Bentley Prince Street Receives Environmental Award

City of Industry, CA, February 27, 2007--For the fourth consecutive year, Bentley Prince Street has been recognized for its progressive efforts to reduce waste and conserve resources as a winner of the Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) award.  Sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, the state’s leading authority on recycling and waste reduction, the WRAP awards recognize California companies for the successful implementation of resource-efficient practices and aggressive waste reduction, reuse and recycling programs.

“At Bentley Prince Street, just as we have our own Mission Zero goal of eliminating our potential negative impact on the environment by the year 2020, we’re equally committed to helping move California toward a zero-waste future,” said Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street.  “We’re honored to receive this award, which acknowledges our continual focus on conserving resources and promoting sustainable business practices throughout every area of our operations.”

Over the last 12 years, Bentley Prince Street has achieved a number of significant environmental milestones:

 Reduced waste sent to landfill by 95 percent

 Reduced net absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 75 percent

 Reduced water intake per unit of product by 67 percent

 Reduced overall energy use by 57 percent

 Reduced NOx emissions by 36 percent

"California continues to benefit in so many ways thanks to businesses and nonprofit organizations whose environmentally friendly policies conserve our natural resources and create economic opportunities,” said Board Chair Margo Reid Brown.  “In 2006, WRAP winners were shining examples of how we can all find ways to cut waste and recycle as much as possible, reuse materials and be conscientious stewards of our natural resources.  It’s a pleasure to honor these businesses.”

Now in its 14th year, the WRAP awards honor businesses for their commitment to a range of environmentally preferable business practices, including cutting the amount of trash they produce, conserving resources and reducing waste disposal in landfills.  Practices evaluated include waste prevention, materials reuse, recycling, recycled-product procurement and employee education.
