Bentley Prince Street Aiding Iowa Flood Victims
City of Industry, CA, Aug. 21, 2008 – Bentley Prince Street is helping homeowners and businesses in Iowa get back on their feet by donating more than 26,000 yards of carpet to flood victims in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Coralville.
The company is working with Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Iowa to store and distribute the carpet to eligible flood victims.
In June, Iowa experienced record flooding. Currently, it’s estimated that more than 9,000 of the nearly 22,000 homes determined to be flood-damaged are uninhabitable.
“Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout Iowa are working to increase their homeownership partner opportunities for low-income Iowans," said Bobbi Bendickson, executive director, Habitat for Humanity of Iowa.
"Thirty of the 36 Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Iowa are in Federal Disaster areas, and each are working on long-term recovery committees to help more families recover from these floods. We are working to increase our building even more in response to the flood and the lack of affordable housing in Iowa.”
Through the program, Bentley Prince Street is sending a variety of different carpet styles, patterns and colors from its California mill to Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Coralville, Iowa. Habitat for Humanity then inventories and stores the carpet in its facilities.
