Australian Tile Firm Pushed Out by Imports

Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, Dec. 4, 2009--Workers of Eureka Tiles were told on Wednesday that the factory will close.

Steve Roach of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union says the company has been pushed out of the market by cheap imports.

He says the Federal Government should do more to protect Australian jobs.

"The reality is Eureka Tiles is the last ... commercial tile manufacturer in Victoria, and this is all a consequence of political decisions made by our brave politicians who have accepted this argument of free trade and allowed the jobs of our working people to be exported to places like China and India," he said.
