Atlanta Magazine Names Myers Carpet “Best in City”

Atlanta, GA, December 1--Myers Carpet’s Atlanta store was named the best place to buy floorcovering by Atlanta Magazine in its “Best of Atlanta 2004” December issue, according to the Dalton Daily Citizen. “You’ve got hundreds of carpet stores in Dalton and most of them are selling the same product lines — the Shaws, the Queens, the Beaulieus and the Mohawks,” Rick Myers said. “But we have gone higher end over the past few years and that creates a niche that gives us an edge on business.” Myers Carpet, with stores in Dalton, Atlanta and Nashville, has become the largest wool retailer in the South and found a spot among the top 10 wool retailers in the country, Rick Myers said. Each year, the editors at Atlanta Magazine pick the city’s top restaurants, retail stores and art galleries. They also select winners in other quirky categories such as best cupcakes, top sports reporter and most sexy jeans. The magazine has presented the awards for more than 20 years. Writers with the magazine described Myers Carpet’s Atlanta store at 1500 Northside Drive this way: “Inside, knowledgeable staff will guide you through endless choices ranging from stylish floorcoverings like cork and bamboo to traditional tile, hardwoods, and of course, carpet!” Another reason for the selection are workrooms in each store that allow custom pieces of carpets and rugs to be made, Rick Myers said. “Our workrooms are really what sets us apart from all the other mom and pop carpet stores,” Myers said. “You can take material, throw it up on a table and cut a custom rug for anybody. You can make a rug 22 feet long, and you’d never find that hanging on a rack anywhere.” Myers Carpet was founded in Dalton in 1957 and has about 50 employees among its three stores. Ray Myers manages the Atlanta store, which opened in 1987 and includes a 10,000-square-foot showroom. Rick Myers credited controller David Young for contributing to the company’s success through his involvement in all three stores. The Myers Carpet Web site (myerscarpet.com) recently won a Gold American Marketing Association Atlanta Marketing of the Year Award in the search engine marketing category. MaxMedia, the marketing and design firm that created the Web site, received the award.
