Astro Dye to Close in January

Calhoun, GA, August 8--Astro Dye Works, a yarn-dyeing operation, will close its doors permanently in January 2006. The closing will cut 65 jobs. Astro Dye Works was established in 1957 and had employed as many as 500 or 600 workers at its peak. Astro was asquired by Meridian Industries of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in May 2001. After the acquisition, Astro Dye plant specialized in space-dyeing and twisting novelty yarns. The group provides yarn to the automotive, homefurnishing, and apparel industries. The Astro operation will be consolidated into Meridian’s Valdese, N.C. facility.
