Colorado Springs, CO, Mar. 10--Kenneth W. Adams of Ithaca, New York has been elected the 52nd president of the Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration (ASCR), an international trade association for the cleaning and restoration industry.
He was elected March 8 at the Association’s annual meeting in Colorado Springs, and succeeds Timothy J. Horrigan of Gardner, MA who will remain on the ASCR Board and continue to be actively involved in the association.
Adams is the owner and president of ABC Services of Ithaca, a residential and commercial carpet cleaning firm, which he founded in 1971. The firm specializes in cleaning and repairing oriental rugs.
“I’m most appreciative of the opportunity to lead ASCR during the coming year and be able to give something back to the cleaning and restoration industry,” Adams said. “The leadership vacuum left by Tim Horrigan is huge and it will take considerable energy on my part to live up to the high standard he has set.”
ASCR helps members build competitive advantage in the marketplace, Adams believes, and that is where he will focus his agenda. The key is for the association to continue to provide its members with educational opportunities to fine tune their business management skills, as well as making available to them the most advanced information in the cleaning, restoration, and remediation disciplines. That will ultimately enable them to better meet the needs of consumers and distance themselves from the competition.
Adams brings a wealth of experience to his role as ASCR president. Since joining the association in 1986, he has served in a number of capacities. They include chairing the Board of Trustees of the ASCR Foundation, chairing the ASCR Foundation Testing and Evaluation Committee, membership in the National Institute of Rug Cleaning, and a four-year term on the Advisory Board of the Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Institute.
Bill Lakin, technical director of DRL of Stafford, England was elected to serve as vice president of ASCR for the upcoming year. Lakin will also chair the ASCR Foundation, the educational arm of ASCR. He is the first international member to serve on the ASCR executive committee and chair the ASCR Foundation.
Elected as an ASCR director was Ben Yanker of Buffalo Restoration in Bozeman, MT.
Elected as trustees of the ASCR Foundation were Tim Fagan of Coach’s Catastrophe in Ypsilanti, MI and Brad Wike of Peerless Cleaners in Decatur, IL.
