ASCR Conference Focuses on Winning in a Turbulent

Millersville, MD, June 14--Cleaning and restoration company owners and managers from across the country will be converging on St. Louis, Missouri September 14 to 17, 2005 for Weathering the Storm – Winning Strategies for Turbulent Times. The conference is being sponsored by the Restoration Council of the Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration (ASCR). "Today’s marketplace is as challenging as it has ever been for both cleaning and restoration companies," said Rusty Amarante, CR, of Belfor USA and the co-chair of the Restoration Council. "We’ve recognized that and have packed the agenda for this conference with content aimed at helping owners and managers fine-tune their management skills, giving them a competitive advantage, and generating new revenue streams. We’ll also be focusing on some of the key issues affecting the ability to win in today’s extremely tough environment." A four-hour block has been devoted to how good restoration companies can become great restoration companies. It will include in-depth looks at industry leaders in distribution, drying, and construction/reconstruction. Speakers will share with conference participants their formulas for success in being the best in the marketplace, generating sustained excellent cash-flow and profitability, and the importance of a passion for success that characterizes great companies. Another highlight of the agenda is a continuing discussion of profit and overhead – among the most critical and contentious issues facing restoration contractors today. Industry leaders will be discussing ways of increasing the number of restoration contractors who are providing data to Xactimate on a regular basis; developing standard contracts and other documents, which can be used in dealing with insurance companies; and reviewing a white paper on best profit and overhead practices in the restoration industry. Other business topics on the agenda include Working for Profit; How to Keep More of What You Make; Cash Flow and Working Capital; After the Trauma—Working with Clients and Employees; and Performance-Based Compensation. Weathering the Storm – Winning Strategies for Turbulent Times will kick off with a dinner honoring and roasting Cliff Zlotnik, CR, WLS, CMH, former president of ASCR and the chief executive officer of Unsmoke. Master of ceremonies will be Martin King, CR, ASA, ASCR technical advisor and long-time restoration industry advisor. The Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration, located in Millersville, Maryland, is the only international trade association in the cleaning and restoration industry. It has more than 1,300 national and international member firms specializing in cleaning, treating, and repairing damaged buildings and their contents.
