They must also complete a rigorous program that includes 50 hours of instruction on a broad range of topics, write a formal paper on an approved topic, complete an ethics exam, participate in a restoration seminar, and pass a comprehensive exam. To maintain their status, Certified Restorers must stay abreast of the latest technology advances in cleaning and restoration sciences and be certified every three years. “Certifying restoration professionals is among the most important things we do,” said Bill Lakin, CR, chairman of the National Institute of Disaster Restoration. “We set high standards because it is critical that consumers and their insurers have the utmost confidence in Certified Restorers and trust them to use the best methods and latest technology to restore property after it has been damaged.” Members of NIDR are proficient in restoring residential and commercial property damaged by significant events such as fire, smoke, water, and vandalism.
