ASCR Announces Name Change

Columbia. MD, February 19, 2007--The Association of Specialists in Cleaning & Restoration President Brian Spiegel, CR, said the trade group (ASCR) will launch a major rebranding of the association that has served the industry for more than 60 years. He said the association will now be known as the Restoration Industry Association.

"The new name, Restoration Industry Association, captures the common thread inherent in the function and pursuit of every RIA member business," said Spiegel. "The very nature of what the industry does is 'restore' -- returning things to their previous or better condition."

"Whether the business is cleaning rugs, carpets or textiles, damage restoration, or environmental remediation, Restoration Industry Association is a name that encompasses all of these operations and supports the RIA mission to 'provide industry leadership, support science and promote best practices.'"

"It is a logical progression in our effort to redefine the trade association's role within the industry," said RIA Executive Director Don Manger. "Our goal is to represent member interests, provide critical information and take action on important initiatives that affect our members and the customers who rely on their services."

The name change is effective immediately.

Other aspects of the rebranding will be rolled out in the coming months including a new consumer-oriented website. Victims of natural disasters such as tornadoes and hurricanes, home or business owners with suspected mold or other environmental hazards, and individuals or companies seeking information regarding rug and textile cleaning will be served by information and guidance from industry professionals.

Industry members will see changes in the revamped Fall Conference scheduled for October 23-27, 2007, in California, and continued progress on legislative representation.

Strategically, RIA intends to become more active in preserving and protecting best practices in the restoration industry, resulting in more options and higher standards for consumers.

RIA is also committed to educational excellence within the industry and will continue to offer high caliber certification programs in the areas of environmental, textile and restoration. Augmenting the varied skill sets and proficiencies of members, RIA will continue to offer education events on business practices for optimum efficiencies in the workplace.

From hospital sanitization; crime scene clean-up; mold, lead and asbestos removal; rug, carpet and textile cleaning; to methamphetamine lab abatement; fire and water loss restoration; and other specialty services; RIA represents 1200 member businesses and the finest practitioners in the restoration industry worldwide. At 62 years strong, this RIA will continue to represent the best in the industry, while setting a strong course for the future.
