ASCER Unveiling Ceramic in Motion

Barcelona, Spain, November 19, 2007--ASCER, the Spanish Ceramic Floor and Wall Tile Manufacturers’ Association, is showing “Ceramic Tiles in Motion” at this year’s Casa Decor Barcelona 2007.

An unprecedented project, it has been created by Catalan architect Xavier Claramunt, who has used the applications of robotics to give movement to the ceramic tiles.

This unusual exhibit can be viewed at the old Fabra i Coats factory December 16, 2008. The idea is to feature ceramic tile, a material which, according to Claramunt “has a thousand faces, none of which needs even a millimeter of cosmetic surgery.”

“Ceramic Tiles in Motion” is an undulating structure made of small ceramic tiles that Claramunt has combined with an oscillating movement and light. The whole surrounds the observer and rocks gently.

The initiative to feature the project as part of Casa Decor has been driven by ASCER as part of a series of projects and activities launched in 2005 that are, in turn, part  of the National Ceramic Tile Promotion Plan.
