ASCER Sponsors Course at Harvard

Miami, FL, September 14, 2007--Spanish Ceramic Floor and Wall Tile Manufacturers’ Association (ASCER) is sponsoring a course on architecture projects at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (USA).

The course will be led by Spanish architect Patxi Mangado, who is currently creating the Spanish Pavilion at the 2008 Zaragoza Expo, which features ceramic tiles as a major element.

Students will learn about ceramic tile materials, their features and applications.

Titled “El Rejoneo: taking a stance on local cultures,” the course will use projects presented by students to analyze the role the architect can play in reinterpreting local traditions and integrating them into an ever more global world.

An important part of the course will be the students’ visit to Spain to see a number of different completed projects.  The program also includes a trip to Castellón to have a closer look at the Spanish ceramic tile industry and attend a series of lectures that will help them in the development of their projects.

One highlight of the course will be a practical workshop on innovation in ceramic that will be run by Vicente Sarrablo, head of the Ceramic Tile Studies Department at Barcelona University, and his colleague Jordi Roviras.

The Spanish Ceramic Floor and Wall Tile Manufacturers’ Association (ASCER) has been rolling out a series of activities targeted at architects with a view to extending their awareness of the virtues of ceramic tile as a material for use in architecture.
