Armstrong to Close Tennessee Cabinet Plant

Morristown, TN, December 8--Armstrong Cabinets will discontinue production of cabinet products at its facility in Morristown beginning in February 2005, according to the Morristown Citizen Tribune. The closing will affect approximately 95 employees. Parent company Armstrong Holdings, Inc. announced the closing as part of a cost structure improvement in its cabinet business by consolidating production at its Nebraska and Pennsylvania cabinet manufacturing facilities. The company will continue cabinet warehousing and service operations at its sales service center in Morristown. All qualified employees willing to relocate will be considered for placement at the Nebraska facility. "We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our Morristown employees and we recognize that eliminating jobs disrupts the lives of good employees and their families," said Stephen J. Senkowski, executive vice president of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. "We will provide severance and job referral services to help reduce the impact on these employees." Local Armstrong management had no comment.
