Armstrong Making New BioBased Tile in Mississippi

Jackson, MS., February 28, 2008 – Armstrong has begun manufacturing its new BioBased Tile in Jackson, Miss. It’s the first plant to produce the sustainable commercial tile.

The new tile is made of limestone with a proprietary Armstrong binder that itself is made from corn. The tile also uses 10 percent post-industrial recycled content.

“Armstrong chose to introduce the BioStride technology in a commercial composition tile because more than one billion square feet of VCT is installed in the U.S. every year,” said Frank J. Ready, president and CEO, Armstrong Floor Products.

“At the Jackson plant, we’re applying the same manufacturing process to make Migrations BioBased tile as we use to make composition tile, which expands the availability and affordability of biobased technology to the largest product category in the hard surface commercial flooring industry.”
