Armstrong Locks Out Ceiling Plant Workers
Lancaster, PA, July 18, 2011 -- Armstrong World Industries locked out its Marietta ceilings plant's 260 unionized employees at noon Sunday, a day after they failed to vote on Armstrong's latest contract proposal by the company's deadline, according to Lancaster Online.
The plant's unionized production and maintenance workers had been continuing to work despite the June 1 expiration of their prior contract.
The first lockout in memory at an Armstrong plant anywhere comes after the leadership of Unit 441 of United Steelworkers Local 285 did not hold a vote on Armstrong's latest offer in the days after it was made.
