Armstrong Bringing Back Jobs from India
Lancaster, PA, Feb. 13, 2009--Armstrong World Industries is recalling some of the jobs it outsourced to India in 2006 to save money, according to Lancaster Online.
Armstrong is hiring 15 to 20 people in the strategic accounts department at its headquarters, replacing work being done in India.
The new hires will serve one of Armstrong's biggest customers, which the company declined to name, Armstrong spokeswoman Beth Riley told the newspaper.
The hiring is expected to be completed by the end of March, she said.
Riley said the service function was brought back to America "at the request of the customer," who she declined to name. She also declined to say why the customer wanted the work brought back here.
The customer service function in the strategic accounts department handles tasks such as processing the customer's orders for Armstrong products and answering questions about deliveries and other issues, said Riley.
Riley said the switch does not reflect any unhappiness on Armstrong's behalf with the quality of the work being performed in India. She added that strategic accounts work for other major customers continues to be handled from there.
