Aquafil's Econyl Completes Lifecycle Assessment

Cartersville, GA, Sept. 29, 2011 -- Aquafil USA has just released the results of the life cycle assessment of its Econyl sustainable polymer compared to type 6 nylon with virgin polymer.

Econyl is a 100% recycled content resin both from post-industrial and post-consumer waste.

"The results of the analysis conducted by GUT (Gemeinschaft Umweltfreundlicher Teppichboden) clearly show the Econyl yarn has a better environmental performance when compared with a widely acknowledged market reference like Altochroma type 6 nylon with virgin polymer," the company said in a press release.

The analysis showed the cradle to gate approach both for the Econyl and Altochroma yarns, Aquafil said.

The three key indexes focused on were global warming potential, resource depletion potential, and energy use.

Aquafil said the test showed that Econyl cuts greenhouse gases by 37%, consumes 53% less non-renewable resources, and cuts energy use by 39%.
