Aquafil Signs Atlanta Firm for Solar Installation

Cartersville, GA, Oct. 28, 2011 -- Aquafil said it has signed a contract with Atlanta-based Radiance Solar to install the largest rooftop solar photovoltaic installation in Georgia using solar panels supplied by Suniva.

Suniva manufactures high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells and high-power solar modules using patented low-cost techniques to make solar generated electricity cost competitive with fossil fuels.

Early next year, a large portion of the Aquafil plant in Cartersville will be covered in solar panels with a capacity exceeding 400 Kw. It is estimated the system will generate 525,000 Kwh of electric energy on an yearly basis.

According to the EPA calculator source, that corresponds to a CO2 reduction of 364 tons/year and  is equivalent  to the recycling of 115 tons of waste. Over 300,000 gallons of water will also be saved annually.

The Aquafil plant is a heavy power user. The 525,000 Kwh represents a small percentage of the plant's total consumption, the company said.
