AquaFil Opens Fiber Extrusion Facility in Georgia

Cartersville, GA, November 3, 2006--Aquafil USA Inc. recent inaugurated its new 142,000 sq. ft. facility in in Cartersville with a ceremony in front of more than 150 invitees. 45 guests were from Europe, especially Italy where the Aquafil group has its roots. The new facility, recently finished, houses under one roof Aquafil new fiber extrusion plant, capable of producing up to 12 million lbs/year of Nylon 6 bcf, together with an improved twisting, heatsetting and airentanglement operation. Yarn warehouse and distribution will also be at the same location. The plant is capable of manufacturing approx 23 million lbs of “packaged “ BCF yarn ready to be tufted. The Aquafil USA plant will keep receiving feeder yarn from its sister European companies to complement the locally produced fibres. The company expects USA sales in 2008 to exceed 25,000,000 lbs. The new production site has required more than $ 15,000,000 of capital expenditures and is now fully operational and at this moment 130 employees are occupied at 10 Commerce Drive. While Aquafil USA is celebrating this achievement, the company is already planning a further expansion of its local capacity to happen before the end of next year. Six additional fibre extrusion lines will be added to complement the 8 existing lines and extra reprocessing capacity will also be installed. Aquafil manufactures a variety of specialty BCF yarns, particularly the branded solution dyed ALTO CHROMA and several others fine deniers solution dyed yarns. It also manufactures multi affinity piece dyeable yarns. The company is part of the Bonazzi group, founded in Verona (Italy) in 1956. The group, still family owned, has a turnover in excess of 550 million $, half of it in the carpet fiber business, and currently employs 3000 persons in 7 different countries. Sig. Carlo Bonazzi, chairman and founder of the company, attended the ceremony together with his sons Fabio, Antonio and Giulio, all actively involved in the business.
