Aquafil Can Produce Nylon 6 from Recycled Carpet

Cartersville, GA, June 11, 2009--Aquafil USA said it now has the technology to produce nylon 6 solution dyed polymer from recycled carpeting in what it is calling its Econyl initiative.

The technology separates carpet face fiber from backing and reclaims it for processing into post-consumer nylon 6 carpet fiber with 10% post-consumer  content.

Aquafil said the new polymer contains all the performance characteristics of its Altochroma fiber with its anti-stain, bleach resistance, wear resistance and overdyeable  features.

The firm said the initiative will continue to evolve as Aquafil USA, its customers and its partners assess the methods of collecting recovered source material and plan further innovations.
