Antron Recertified as Environmentally Preferable P
Atlanta, GA, May 27--Invista announced today the re-certification of Antron carpet fiber as an Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS).
Originally awarded certification in 2002, Antron® carpet fiber is the first and only carpet face fiber to achieve EPP certification by an independent third party; and is now the first to achieve re-certification.
“Re-certification is essential to maintaining the validity of environmental claims made by product manufacturers,” said Kirsten Ritchie, director, Scientific Certification Systems Environmental Claims Programs. "Each year, manufacturers are required to submit updated information demonstrating that their product continues to meet the EPP criteria for an environmentally preferable product. Antron® carpet fiber has once again achieved this distinction in the marketplace.”
As defined by Executive Order (EO) 13101, Environmental Preferable Products include products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. SCS’s certification examines all stages of a product’s lifecycle and incorporates environmental and human health issues relevant to the category. Products are evaluated on product performance; manufacturing process; amount of green energy used in the manufacture of the product; health and safety issues associated with manufacturing; and end-of-life responsibility.
“As an industry leader, we are committed to the re-certification of Antron® carpet fiber as an Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) so we can provide environmentally-conscious products, allowing purchasers to make the best-informed environmental choices,” said Alan Wolk, president of interiors, Invista.
In addition to the EPP certification of Antron Lumena® BCF and Antron® Legacy BCF fibers, other SCS certifications include:
Select Antron Lumena® and Antron® Legacy BCF fibers – certified 90 percent post-industrial recycled content
Antron Lumena® BCF Denier 1245, Type C – certified five percent post-industrial recycled content
Invista Reclamation Center, Calhoun, Ga. – certified carpet reclamation and processing facility
Dry Fiber Nylon (DFN) – certified 100 percent post-consumer recycled content
EcoSoft™ Carpet Cushion – certified 100 percent recycled content, at least 50 percent post-consumer content
As an environmentally preferable carpet fiber, Antron® carpet fiber is a part of more than 180 different carpet styles on the market certified by SCS. Interface Flooring Systems, C&A Floorcoverings and Bentley Prince Street all have certified environmentally preferable carpet products constructed with EPP certified Antron® carpet fibers.
Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) is a scientific organization recognized internationally for its third party evaluation and certification programs. SCS is the leading independent certifier of environmental claims in the U.S. and has certified claims on thousands of products, addressing a wide range of environmental issues.
