Antron Names Innovation Award Winners

Chicago, IL, June 15, 2009--The ninth Antron Carpet Fiber Product Innovation Award top honors went to Masland Contract, Atlas Carpet Mills and Lees, a brand of the Mohawk Group, in an awards ceremony held at NeoCon.

Masland Contract’s “Floorplan Series” and Atlas Carpet Mills’ “Dance Partner Collection” both captured the gold award in the broadloom category, and Lees captured the gold award in the modular category for “Sixth Sense Collection.” 

Jurors recognized Masland Contract’s “Floorplan Series” with a gold award in the broadloom category for its innovative technology, fresh design aesthetic and versatility.  “The interpretation of natural materials into the pattern is very successful and the patterns coordinate extremely well together,” said juror Marissa Hernandez-Yu of Page Southerland Page. 

Atlas Carpet Mills’ “Dance Partner Collection” was also recognized with a gold award in the broadloom category for its playful patterns and colorways.  According to Lori Kolthof of FRCH Worldwide, the collection is, “Wonderfully colored.  The visual of pattern over pattern makes the use of these carpets a match for every market.” 

The gold award in the modular category was awarded to Lees for the “Sixth Sense Collection.”  Kyle Barnes of Walt Disney Imagineering said, “The collection features an outstanding selection of diverse patterns and exceeds what one might expect from a modular product.”

Antron Carpet Fiber Product Innovation silver and merit awards were also given to carpet mills whose products excelled in style, aesthetics, color and usage in the marketplace.  A Product Innovation merit award was given to whitespace for the style “Rain” in the broadloom category.  A silver award went to Lees for the “En Vogue Collection” in the modular category and Atlas Carpet Mills received a merit award for “Luminary Collection” in the modular category.

“This year’s winners pushed the design envelop with innovative carpet styling technologies and patterning,” said Bobby Berrier, vice president of commercial interiors, Invista.

“The styles demonstrate the ability of Antron carpet fiber to enable innovation of textural effects and diversity of design.”
 
Judges were Kyle Barnes of Walt Disney Imagineering, Susan DiMotta of Perkins Eastman, Lori Kolthof of FRCH Worldwide, Jaime Velez of SOM and Marissa Hernandez-Yu of Page Southerland Page.
