Anderson-Tully Shuts Down Vicksburg Plant Temporar
Vicksburg, MS, June 18--The Anderson-Tully Co. flooring mill in Vicksburg shut down Tuesday, adding two weeks of down time to the already scheduled weeklong closing period in early July.
"We told our (flooring mill) employees two months ago we would shut down the week of July 4," said Mike Myrick, human resources manager for Anderson-Tully.
He said the long warning time was so employees who had not taken their vacations could schedule them for the week the plant would be shut down and they would not miss a paycheck.
Myrick said flooring division workers were told Monday of the additional time off.
For the week of July 4, all of the 138 employees of the flooring division were to be off. Those employees plus 45 additional company workers took off Tuesday.
Everyone will be back to work July 7, Myrick said.
"If we were to remain open, we would just build up more inventory," he said.
The division produces engineered wood flooring.
Company official said the shutdown will not affect the rest of the company's operation here. Those workers will be off only July 4. Companywide, the plant employs about 500 people in Vicksburg.
Anderson-Tully is a major owner of hardwood timberland in Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. It has its headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., and its mills in Vicksburg.
