All Shaw Nylon Area Rugs Are Recyclable

Dalton, GA, November 20, 2007--Shaw said that all nylon area rugs from Shaw Living are now recyclable.

In addition, area rugs made of Anso nylon will contain recycled content. As part of the Shaw Green Edge, an umbrella term that encompasses the company’s environmental initiatives, all Shaw products made of Type 6 nylon are recyclable at the company’s Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility.

In July 2007, Shaw introduced the first recyclable rugs to the industry with the Premiere and Natural Expression collections.

“Shaw is excited and proud to announce that all of our nylon area rugs are recyclable, which means half of all Shaw area rugs are now recyclable,” said KIimberly Barta, Shaw Living brand manager. “Additionally, the consumer doesn’t have to pay more for the recyclable area rugs. It’s a simple, feel good selection for the consumer.”

The nylon area rugs are recycled in a closed-loop process based on the philosophy of cradle-to-cradle recycling. Cradle to cradle is the process of taking a product after its useful life, breaking it down into its raw building blocks and rebuilding the same product over and over again-- without the loss of performance or aesthetic qualities.

Shaw recycles in this cradle-to-cradle model at the Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility by breaking down nylon 6 area rugs into its original material called caprolactam and rebuilding it into virgin-like nylon.
