828 International on “Extreme Makeover” Home Editi

Greenville, SC, December 6, 2005—Designers and contractors from “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” recently built a home for a deserving family in Wells Harbor, Maine. When it came time to decorate the magnificent log house, a wish list of rugs was sent to 828 International. The company responded by donating five rugs, including a large 10' x 14' hand-knotted wool rug from 828’s Mahal II Collection that was placed in the family room. The dream home was built for Doug Goodale, a veteran fisherman, and his family whose lives had been severely impacted by an accident that occurred several years ago. It was a stormy day near the end of the lobstering season and Doug, needing to provide for his family, pushed his boat out into the choppy water. As he began to pull the first trap, a huge wave hit his boat creating a slack in the rope, which then spooled around the drum. As he reached to turn off the drum’s motor, his sleeve got caught in the winch. Within seconds, the winch had taken hold of his hand and his arm, breaking every bone as it consumed him. The only way for Doug to free himself was to cut off his own arm. Thinking about his wife, Rebecca, and his two daughters, Amanda and Tabitha, Doug grabbed his twine knife and began to saw off his right arm. Doug’s quick thinking saved his life, although it left him without an arm. Despite all odds, Doug rebuilt his boat and taught himself to fish. Unfortunately, lost wages and massive medical bills made it impossible for Doug to make much-needed repairs on his home. “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” came to the Goodale’s rescue with a wonderful home that will ease their burdens and keep them warm during the cold winter months. 828 International was pleased to provide the Goodale family with rugs for their new home. In addition to the Mahal II rug, the company donated two rugs from their Highlights Collection for the girls’ bedrooms, a Founders rug (style #F0-01) for the living room and a Grand Trunk Road rug (style # GTR3265) for the family room.
