30 Interface Associates Named LEED-Accredited Prof
Atlanta, GA, September 29--The U.S. Green Building Council reports that 1,574 projects are either registered or certified for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) designation, representing more than 180 million square feet of built space. That level of activity calls for more professionals accredited in green building principles who can assist developers, owners, tenants, contractors and suppliers in achieving the highest possible LEED rating through more sustainable building practices. The Interface family of companies now has 30 LEED-Accredited professionals among its North American associates; trained and accredited people who can bring more to a project than a specification for floorcovering. These professionals represent 25 percent of the Interface Flooring Systems’ sales force as well as associates from Bentley Prince Street and Interface Americas. The associates span all regions and market segments for the company in both the U.S. and Canada. "Attaining this certification shows our associates' commitment to learn more about green building in total, not just how carpet impacts a green building project," said John Wells, president of Interface Flooring Systems. "It also reflects our company’s approach to sustainability as a full-scale effort to find sustainable solutions not only for Interface, but for our clients and suppliers as well." Administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED Accredited professionals are experienced building industry practitioners who have demonstrated knowledge of integrated design, understanding of green building practices and principles, and familiarity with LEED requirements, resources and processes. Professionals are certified by passing a comprehensive exam. Once accredited, these professionals are able to facilitate projects aiming for LEED certification. The LEED Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. There are LEED projects in all 50 U.S. states and 12 countries globally. Interface, Inc., is a global supplier of commercial interiors products and a leader in industrial ecology.
