Vision Design Awards - April 2020
The integration of dynamic flooring and architecture once again took center stage as part of this year’s 2020 Vision Design Awards, celebrating innovative firms and their projects. And as it has for the past 11 years, the contest drew a broad range of entries from across the country in four categories: corporate, healthcare, education and hospitality/retail.
A panel of three judges-Shashi Caan of the Shashi Caan Collective, Lisa Pinyan of LS3P Associates and Margo Jones of M. Jones Associates-lent their expertise and selected an overall grand prize winner, as well as winners and honorable mentions in each category for a total of nine honors. Once again, this year’s grand prize went to a firm in the corporate category.
Awards are based primarily on the success of integrating flooring into the overall design of the space. Before judging begins, the submissions are stripped of all product and firm names to help ensure they are evaluated exclusively on the merits of the design. “There’s something wonderful about seeing this range of project types, where different kinds of designers and design sensibility are addressed,” Caan says.
The success of the Vision Design Awards stems in large part from the integrity of the sponsors-Bentley Mills, Crossville, HPS Schönox and Tarkett-four firms that celebrate the blind-jury format and, most importantly, understand and value the role of design in the built environment.
Floor Focus will host a celebration honoring the winners on September 11 and 12 in Savannah, Georgia, which will include the designers, jury members and representatives of the sponsor companies. We offer our congratulations to this year’s winners and wish to thank everyone who participated. Acceptance of entries for next year’s awards begins in January 2021.
